The bottle is an elongated oval flattened flask form without a stopper.
It is made of mottled white glass with overlay of red glass carved in relief.
The decoration depicts the Eighteen Scholars; five sit at a long table, playing 'go'; above three hold a scroll bearing the yin-yang motif, and one carries books. On the reverse two sit at a table, three walk, pointing the way forward; above, three men in a pavilion and one leaving it, looking behind him.
The foot is high, slightly splayed and formed by red overlay. There is an angular indentation underneath.
