Artist/Maker
Place of origin

In the Balkans, women usually fastened their clothing with hooks, rather than buttons or bows. This clasp, decorated on the front with filigree and coloured pastes, has two sharp hooks on its back. It would have been used to hold the two sides of a jacket together. It was bought on the Island of Nios, but similar clasps were worn throughout Greece and the southern Balkans.
