Artist/Maker
Place of origin

A vase with ribbed body (16 ribs) rising from a flat base. The neck is missing. One rib in two is engraved and inlaid with copper. The decoration alternates between single undulations of thick copper wire running from the base of the missing neck down to the base, and geometric or epigraphic friezes, now barely discernible. In one instance the geometric pattern appears to include a pierced disc flanked by lotus buds, their points reaching its edge.

Object history
Acquired from the India Office, November 1879

Historical significance: Its recovery at Banjar, in Sistan, makes this a piece of some consequence in view of the very small number of early bronzes that might be given a Sistan provenance.
