Pair of Earrings

Earring
1850-1899 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

These earrings come from Dalmatia, but they are much more similar to those worn across the Adriatic, in Italy, than to those worn elsewhere in the Balkans. The delicate filigree rosettes, and thin curved wires, are typical of the earrings worn by Catholic women in the region. They would not have looked out of place anywhere else in southern Europe.
