Object history
The Accessions Register in which this portrait of a young woman is recorded suggests that it possibly depicts Sophie, daughter of Louis XVI. However, it probably shows Louis's other daughter, Marie-Thérèse Charlotte de France. Whereas Sophie did not survive infancy, Marie-Thérèse lived to her seventies and would have been in her late teens when this print was published.
