Object history
Mirrored embroidery is a favourite medium for costume in the desert regions of Western India and Pakistan. These mirrors were probably originally tiny pieces of naturally-occurring mica; crystals of talc which separate into thin, transparent sheets. It has the same light-reflecting qualities as mirror-glass but available at no cost. In more recent times, mirror-glass has been mass-produced specifically for use on embroidery, particularly at Kapadvanj in Gujarat.
