This was one of eight wallpapers reproduced from historic samples in the V&A and issued in various colourways by Cole & Son in 1975. This pattern of neo-Gothic window tracery was reconstructed from fragments found at Nowton Court, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, and had been reprinted for the owner in 1970s. An order for the original paper (a block print with flock), with sample attached, is listed in the order book of the London decorating firm Cowtan & Son for 1 December 1840.

Object history
An order for the original paper, with sample in flock and block, dated 1 December 1840, is in a volume of the Wallpaper Order Books formerly belonging to Cowtan & Sons Ltd (see E.1862-1885-1946). This reprint was made by Cole & Son from fragments found at Nowton Court, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.
