Durbar Chair

ca. 1922 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This chair has Prince of Wales' feathers on the top rail. Each upright has an 'E'. This distinctive decoration indicates that it was made for Edward, Prince of Wales (later Edward VIII), during his tour to India in 1921 to 1922. The prominent thistles at the top of each upright suggest that it was used at an event with a Scottish association. It was possibly used to receive the prince, or a senior member of his party, at the review of the Seaforth Highlanders. This took place at Delhi on 18 February 1922.
