Place of origin

Cushion cover, tapestry woven in coloured wools on linen warps depicting The Entry of Christ into Jerusalem. The subject is represented within a laurel wreath which is held on each standing by a standing angel. Christ is riding upon the ass, with two disciples following on foot; a man in front throws down a cloak and a boy is in the branches of a tree above the group. There are horse in the distance and a blue background. Four half-length figures in the corners are probably intended for the Evangelists. Flowers and fruit fill the remaining space in bright colours on a black ground.

Production
Made in northern Europe. The cover was attributed to Sweden when acquired by the V&A, but the Curator of Textiles Berit Eldvik at Nordiska Museet (December 2002) is convinced that the cover is not made in Sweden, and could have been made anywhere in northern Europe.
