Place of origin

The controversial and memorable 'Labour Isn't Working' image was created for a Conservative Party poster and cinema campaign in 1978, in anticipation of a general election. Reissued in 1979 - election year - as 'Labour Still Isn't Working', it preyed on one of modern life's widespread anxieties, that of the fear of unemployment. It is often claimed that this poster was a factor in the fall of Prime Minister James Callaghan's Labour Party government and its replacement by a Conservative government led by Margaret Thatcher.
