The jar rests on a flat, circular base, the wall swells upwards and outwards and is surmounted by a dome, with a circular segment removed at an angle of 45º, off centre, which forms the mouth of the vessel, the rim edged with a plain moulding. The jar is made in two sections; the hemispherical dome is braised to the body at the neck of the vessel. The soldered join is invisible externally. The external surface, highly polished. The lid is a turned sphere of maplewood.

Pewter and maplewood, Sheffield, designed in 1995 and made in 1997 by Eleanor Kearney Pewter Design
Eleanor Kearney (b. 1966) established her own design and production company for a range of pewter, which is sold internationally. These pieces are of spun and polished pewter with handle and lids of polished maplewood.
