Gallery label | SYMBOLS OF IDENTITY
Colours, technique and materials have long been employed in bag design to identify groups of people. This woven bag with colourful motifs of stars, crosses and local animals (llama, alpaca, vicuna or guanaco), produced with natural dyes, is characteristic of 16th-century Peruvian people before the arrival of Spanish explorers [T.76-1933]. Similarly, the Swedish belt bag decorated with natural motifs of floral embroidery is typical of the Floda region.
