Love Festival

Poster
1967 (published)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

A poster advertising bands performing at the UFO Club, Tottenham Court Road, London, in February 1967. The glistening plastic lips and burgeoning lettering in a glorious combination of red and pink are a deliberate reference to the art of the American painter Tom Wesselmann (born 1931). At the time, the eclecticism of the British Pop poster artists was referred to by the singer and entertainer George Melly as a 'visionary and hallucinatory bouillabaisse'.
