After the Second World War ended in 1945, the British Government commissioned many 'welfare' posters for an extended range of social responsibilities. However, before the War the initiative had usually been taken by charities and campaigning bodies. This poster by the Health and Cleanliness Council draws a connection, in the style of a children's book, between cleanliness and happiness.

Portrait format poster printed in colours, predominantly red and black on white/cream ground.Two parallel vertical strips of letters: A-M and N-Z each illustrated with images of children exhibiting an alphabetical list of moods: on the left side of each strip 'bad' moods and on the right, 'good' moods. At the top of the sheet a red banner with the legend ''Which Kind Of Alphabet Do You Like?' and at the bottom a similar banner with the legend Where There's Dirt There's Danger.'
