Marks and inscriptions
  • 'Sir I have sent two sketches for the gentlemans aprobation (sic) this is the best. I should like to know whether any more ships may be introduced than one, or whether the place is an Island (here the inscription continues on the back of the sheet on which the other sketch, E.1029, is made) or joned (sic) to the continent they will make nice subjects with a little attention. I am Sir your Obliged Sert Wm Anderson compliments to Mrs Carpenter.' (Inscribed in ink)

Production
The sketch is made on a sheet of letter-paper evidently sent through the post to Mr James Carpenter together with E.1029-1928 as the inscription, in the artist's hand-writing, is continuous with that on the other sketch (E.1029a).
