Between 1925 and 1930 the envelope-shaped 'pochettes' began to dominate, some with residual handles at top or back, through which the fingers could slip, others with a frame but no handle, to tuck under the arm. Some closed with an envelope flap with an asymmetrically placed metal catch, while the flap in others covered the whole side. The clasp of this bag is hallmarked and incised 'Hermès' and is thought to be one of Hermès early designs.

Physical description | Rectangular black crocodile handbag with a flap fastening. The silver clasp is on a cylindrical hinge that passes through a silver-mounted slit in a tongue attached to the bag flap. The clasp is hallmarked and incised 'Hermès'. On the reverse is a finger strap. The bag is lined with grey leather, and the inside has pockets (two inner and one outer) covered with flaps and fastens with snap fasteners. |
