Artist/Maker
Place of origin

A poster advertising the Paris debut of the American dancer Loïe Fuller (1862-1928) at the Folies-Bergère in 1893. She caused a sensation when she first appeared in Paris performing her 'Serpentine' dance, whirling across the stage in diaphanous costume, transformed by coloured lighting. Jean Chéret's exuberant style matched her performance perfectly, and this poster was printed in four different colour versions.
