Rings with Arabic inscriptions were commonly worn throughout the Islamic world. They were often thought to have amuletic protective properties as well as acting as seal rings.

This example was part of a large bequest of Oriental Silver Ornaments received by the Museum in 1904, when it was described as modern Egyptian.

Silver ring consisting of a plain shank of circular section. The bezel is a disc, engraved with Arabic characters, which is soldered to the shank.
