Ring
1880-1900 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

The simple design of this ring is typical of traditional silver from the whole North African region. The patterns vary slightly from place to place, identifying this example as coming from Nubia in the extreme south of Egypt. Rings like this are also found set with red pastes, instead of the disc with an Arabic inscription in this example.

It was part of a large bequest of Oriental Silver Ornaments received by the Museum in 1904, when it was described as modern Egyptian.
