Place of origin |
From 1888 to 1913 the Moravian artist Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939) was based in Paris, where his poster designs were printed by Champénois. Their relationship highlights the key role of the printer in artistic posters. Champénois put Mucha under contract in order to upgrade his business, and to attract prestigious clients, such as Job and Bières de la Meuse. Champénois exerted enormous pressure on Mucha in the process. He also resold Mucha's designs to other clients and printed collector's editions in order to maximise his financial returns.
