Object history
The original painting was discovered in 1840 'in putting a doorway through the ancient wall under the Green Court gateway, in the middle of the wall under an old arch'
Note by Professor Tristram: The painting perished soon after its exposure. A projection in the wall immediately below the central figure suggests the possibility of there having been a holy water stoup there.
