It is rare to find a sword guard of such pure silver as this. The Bugaku theatre mask of Ryo-o the Dragon King on this example (which is detailed and inlaid with gold, copper and alloy is similar to the two Bugaku masks in the V&A's collection (W.516-1922 and W.518-1922).

It is rare to find a tsuba of such pure silver as this. The overall design of the Bugaku mask of Ryo-o on this tsuba, inlaid with gold, copper and shakudo, is similar to that of the actual Bugaku mask in the Victoria and Albert Museum's collection.
