The bowl has a flat bottom with low curving sides, a flat everted rim , a long pouring lip and flanges of varying shapes.
The long pouring lip passes through a flange, whilst the side flanges are shaped like pointed, waisted arches traditional in Eastern Iranian design. The oversized back flange is typical of the trend for larger thumb rests.
Decoration on the thumb rest is of symmetrical volutes carrying half palmettes. Decoration on the side flanges are spade shaped five-lobed palmettes.
The rim is decorated with an epigraphic frieze engraved in thin rounded Kufic script which begins in a line running parallel to the raised rim of the pouring lip and then breaks at an angle along the circular bowl.
Patina: Olive to olive brown.
