This Tibetan man's coat of brown wool and brightly coloured woollen stripes carries the typical decoration of painted crosses. This cross pattern was also quite common on women's aprons and on other textiles in Tibet.

This type of coat is sometimes seen in photographs taken before 1950 of Ache Lhamo (or Folk Opera) performers.
