This terracotta architectural fragment was originally part of the modelling on the Thomas A. Edison School in Hammond, Indiana, USA, one of two schools designed by George Grant Elmslie for the architectural office of Hutton & Son. The other building being the Oliver P. Morton School. The building from which this fragment was taken, the Thomas A. Edison School, was built in 1936/7 but was demolished in 1991, and this fragment taken from a frieze or cornice panel was salvaged at this time. The terracotta for the school was designed by Elmslie, modelled by Fritz Albert, and cast by the Midland Terracotta Company of Chicago.
