This cotton turban cloth is decorated using the tie-dye technique. It was originally 17 feet (approximately 6 metres) long.
Sir Caspar Purdon Clarke (1846-1911) acquired the turban on his tour of India in 1881-1882. An architect and archaeologist, he became Director of the Museum in 1896.
