This is a poster that the Olivetti Corporation of Japan issued for the Valentine typewriter. In 1969 Ettore Sottsass designed the Valentine portable typewriter specifically for the youth market. The posters depicted the machine being used outdoors, such as on the beach, as well as in the privacy of the home. The Valentine was ‘invented for use any place except in the office . . . to keep amateur poets company on quiet Sundays in the country or to provide a highly coloured object on a table in a studio apartment. An anti-machine machine . . .’.
