This opalescent glass vase is a typical example of the hand-made bowls, vases and fancy wares produced by Altaglass in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada between 1950 and 1988.
Founded by John Furch, a Czech émigré who mainly employed European or European-trained craftsmen, the glasshouse followed traditional European techniques and styles. Changing tastes and inflated fuel costs, some years after Furch's death, led to the firm's closure.
