Place of origin |
Peter De Wint (1784-1849) was a very productive artist. During his lifetime he became a popular watercolourist. But he failed to sell his oil paintings.
Like the artist John Constable (1776-1837), De Wint was greatly inspired by the English countryside and particularly favoured harvest scenes. He only travelled abroad once.
De Wint’s technique was quite different from that of the tinted drawings of the 18th century. His method is much more rapid and immediate, with darting brush strokes
