Chorten

ca. 18th century - 19th century (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Buddhist stupas are large dome-shaped buildings housing holy relics. They were also made on a miniature scale, like this example, as religious offerings or for use in ritual. This crystal stupa resembles the full-size stupa at Kirtipur, Nepal. The snake decoration, however, normally appears on temples rather than stupas.
