Wine Pot

1100-1600 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This kettle, a pouring vessel for ritual use, is a later copy of an archaic bronze vessel. In the Song period (960-1279) in China, collecting was an important cultural activity. Bronze vessels and jade ritual objects of the early Bronze Age dynasties (about 1700 BC to AD 220) were particularly appreciated. They had a tremendous influence on the production of contemporary art objects, creating a style that modern art historians term 'archaism'.
