This trumpet of knitted wire forms part of a trio of remarkable objects which are indicative of the maker's interest in symbolic mysticism. The other two are a full size table and a crown (both in Australian collections). The use of red has religious significance suggesting both love and sacrifice.

Physical description | The Entropy of Red - Trumpet, designed & made by Robert Baines; silver wire lacquered in red automobile laxquer. The trumpet has three valves. It is entirely constructed from wires, the basic element being a flat ribbon attached to an undulating ribbon which runs along it in parallel. This element is coiled from the mouth throughout the shape of the trumpet up to the mouthpiece. Except for the cylinders for the pistons, which are of more open construction, the effect if of an intenseley red trumpet made out of a fine filigree. |
