This is a guild flagon from a German shoemakers' guid. The names of various officers, with dates ranging from 1709 to 1776, are inscribed on the body. On the lid is the armorial shield of the guild, engraved with a lion rampant holding a shoe filled with flowers, a spurred riding boot and a lady's shoe.
