Pewter
Rich merchants in Coventry showed their status through consumer goods like this dish. It belonged to a wealthy family who lived at Whitmore Park, now a part of Coventry but then a separate manor. It was used for serving food and at other times might have been displayed on a sideboard. Most towns had pewterers. In medieval Coventry they worked in the middle of the city, close to where the Herbert now stands. The style of this dish suggests it was either made locally or imported from elsewhere in northern Europe.
