Bowl
1690-1720 (made)
Artist/Maker | |
Place of origin |
This bowl is a classic example of Japanese Kakiemon-style porcelain. The fine white body is sparsely painted with pomegranates and peonies in a characteristically bright but soft overlaze enamel palette. A similar bowl was evidently in the collection of Augustus the Strong, King of Poland and Elector of Saxony, by the late 1720s, for it was copied at his porcelain factory in Meissen in about 1729-31(see V&A 7327-1860).
