Object history | This design for a musical trophy, composed of 'rustic' instruments, such as bagpipes, is an eighteenth-century German reduced, reverse copy of a plate from an earlier French ornament suite, 'Livre nouveau de différents Trophées inventez par A. Watteau et gravé par Huquier', which was designed by Watteau and etched and published by Huquier in Paris in 1735. The German printmaker has also added a colour printed border and swag in yellow, to frame the original composition. |
