Marks and inscriptions | Inscribed ' My dear Sir / I send you up the drawing of the / screen I intend the / spandrels [light sketch] should represent the rose / thistle and shamrock / as it is something Royal / by the supporters. I think these animals will / work well as they are drawn. / Mr. Barry wants a Pattern Chair made for the Commons lobbies. His idea is a light but strong / chamfered chair like the above sketch covered with / green leather, and [sketch of portcullis] stamped on the back / Will you get up one of them to Mr. Barry to see / forthwith. Of couse the nails must show / [sketch of standard large dome-headed nail used on all the chair in the building]. Ever yours most sincerely /s. A Welby Pugin / The stamp will not be on the back of the / model chair. That must be done after the order is got. / Pray let me know / something about the / Grafton Reredos / - I quite forgot to ask you.' |
