Costume design for Maria Bronte. The design depicts a full length female figure wearing an early 19th century style costume adapted for ballet performance. The costume consists of a high waisted grey dress with long sleeves over a white underskirt. To the right of the figure are two pencil and pen & ink drawings showing details of the dress. Printed graphics for "The Brontes" and "Northern Ballet Theatre" have been glued by the artist into the corners of the design. The design has also been stamped by the "Society of British Theatre Designers", and "Mayer and Eden". Unsigned by the artist.

Object history | This costume design by Lez Brotherston is part of an extensive collection of designs donated to the Theatre Museum by the artist in 2002. The design was executed for a production of Gillian Lynne's ballet "The Brontes" performed by Northern Ballet Theatre, at the Grand Theatre, Leeds on March 6th 1995. The production was directed by Christopher Gable, the music was composed by Dominic Muldowney, and the lighting was designed by Paul Pyant. |
