Gallery label
William Reading, whose initials may be those on the rim of this plate, was a die-sinker from Birmingham, the centre of the British mould-making industry. Moulds with the initials 'WR' are known to have been used by the French glassworks, Baccarat, and some of the same designs also appear in the pattern-books of Val St Lambert, Belgium. It is possible that William Reading re-cut moulds for factories abroad or cut new designs to their commission. See also C.5-1979
