Brief description
Statuette, alabaster, The Trinity, English, 15th century.
Physical description
This small Trinity shows God the Father, enthroned and crowned, with a forked beard and wearing a gown and a cloak draped over his knees. The cross, which bears Christ and has an orb at the base, stands between his knees. The figure of Christ is shown with his head inclined to the left; he has a forked beard and wears a loincloth and the torse. The Holy Spirit is not represented, but there is a large dowel hole at the top of the cross by which the Dove was doubtless attached.

The right hand of God the Father, which in other examples is raised in blessing, is missing. The right arm of Christ is missing and his left hand is damaged. A little green paint, now darkened, and the usual daisy pattern remain on the ground. Traces of red paint and gilding remain on the figures and on the orb. The back of the figure bears two lead plugs holding latten wires.
