The animal figures made of Meissen porcelain were faithfully copied from engravings and naturalistically painted. They were much in demand in France before the founding of the Sèvres factory there. Already expensive luxuries, they were further embellished in Paris. Elaborate swirling mounts made of fire-gilt ormolu were added to them there.
