| Physical description | Silver, parcel-gilt cup and cover, raised and embossed, upper and lower lobes diagonally paired, alternate ones embossed with tulips, claw and ball feet. The bowl spirally gadrooned, every other gadroon embossed with a tulip motif arranged in two rows. The alternating gadroons were left plain, but were subsequently decorated with Hebrew inscriptions. The bowl is supported on ball-and-claw feet. The domed cover is similarly decorated, with a bowl finial. The lid is inscribed with the initials of the fourteen Hebrew words of the Kiddush blessing. The bowl is inscribed: 'A memorial present from the fraternal society 'Ohave Hesed' (Lovers of Charity) which was established in the 5492 (C.E. 1732) here in Cophenagen in commemoration of the centenary of the Society in 5592 (C.E.1832). |
