Object history | Wierdsley Daubery was a pseudonym of the artist James Hearne to parody Aubrey Beardsley and publically criticise him. Awfly Wierdley was another fake name made up to lambast Beardsley in the press. Criticised by some for his more sexualised and suggestive drawings, various newspapers, rival artists and public figures called for Beardsley's work and emerging progressive publications of the 1890s such as The Yellow Book to be banned. |
