Loving Cup
ca. 1750-1775 (made)
Artist/Maker | |
Place of origin |
Although attractive, the shiny dark-brown surface of Nottingham salt-glazed stoneware offered very limited scope for decoration. Incising and sprigging were sometimes used. This thinly potted loving cup is more adventurous, with its German-type cutting and applied 'breadcrumb' bands. It was probably made for communal drinking.
