  • The 1962 accessions register describes John Sands (1826-1900) as a minor poet as well as an artist. He was also a journalist and travel writer with a particular interest in archaeology and Scottish folklore and island history. He lived on various remote islands including Vaila, Papa Stour and Foula in Shetland, Tiree, St. Kilda, Iona, and the Faroe Islands.
