early 20th century (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Man's turban cloth or shoulder wrap made of woven magenta and green silk threads with gold wrapped threads in the weft. The ends have densely woven gold panels and the pattern of checks seen in the field is repeated in the borders.

Made of two halves joined down the centre. At each end of the cloth is a gold band 31.5 inches long. Silk weft in green giving a shot effect with the pink warp. Gold thread of S-wound gilt metal strip on a silk core. The weave is in tabby in the silk areas. The gold threads in the warp are carried alternately over five and three silk wefts and in the weft over six silk warp threads. In the broad gold band, the gold warp threads float over an irregular number of gold wefts, mostly 10 or 12. At each end is a fringe of warp threads twisted together in groups with a tuft of gold thread at the end.
