A Sogdian merchant is shown riding a double-humped camel. These camels were used for long-distance transportation along the routes of the Silk Road. Large and resilient, they were able to withstand the harsh conditions of the desert. The Chinese used the double-humped Bactrian camel for transporting goods and people.
