Object history
From the 'Oeuvre de Juste Aurèle Meissonnier', a volume of engravings after the works of the French designer, architect and goldsmith, Juste Aurèle Meissonnier (1695-1750). These were issued in three editions between 1742 and 1750. The designs of Meissonnier had previously been published in printed sets or cahiers by Chereau the publisher, and were advertised in the Mercure in March 1734.

This plate is one of eight, on seven sheets, (series letter R), depicting architectural designs and plans, including projects for altars in St. Sulpice and St. Leu, Paris, and for St. Aignan, Orleans, a project for the façade of St. Sulpice, and for a painted ceiling representing the Assumption of the Virgin.
