Darpan (1970)/ The Mirror

Indian Film Poster
1970 (Made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This poster design uses an inverted triangular format to link the three portraits of the main characters. The diminishing scale of the portraits establishes their relative importance to each other. There are two male portraits (Sunil Dutt and Rehman) at the bottom of the triangle both depicted in black and white. The portrait of the actress Waheeda Rehaman which would have been immediately recognisable, is the largest in scale and is placed at the top of the triangle and is depicted in full colour thus indicating her importance to the narrative. All have very sad expressions on their faces which indicates the mood of the film. The background is a pale grey/mauve colour with a series of dramatic coloured stripes. The English title runs across the top of the poster and just below that in much smaller lettering is the Hindi title. The artist's signature is in the centre of the right hand edge.
