Marion Dorn (1899-1964) was born and educated in San Francisco and came to Britain in the early 1920s. By the mid-1930s she was acclaimed as a leading free-lance textile designer and in 1934 founded her own firm, Marion Dorn Ltd.. In 1940 she returned to the USA.
The Old-Bleach Linen Company Ltd of Randalstown, Northern Ireland,was established in 1870 by C J Webb and produced embroidery, dress and furnishing linens, damask table linens and embroidered goods. It published the journal 'Embroideress' in conjunction with James Pearsall & Co. Ltd., manufacturers of embroidery yarns and knitting wools.
This fabric was used in the lounge of the ocean liner 'Orcades'.
